Professor Thomas Bauer
Thomas Bauer is Associate Professor and Acting Head of The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management for The University of the South Pacific.
His academic qualifications include Bachelor of Business (Landshut University of Applied Sciences), Bachelor of Business in Tourism (Munich University of Applied Sciences), Masters of Business in Tourism Development (Victoria University Melbourne) and Doctor of Philosophy (Monash University).
He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, London and a Fellow of THE-ICE, The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education.
In 1991 Thomas began his PhD research into commercial tourism and its impacts in Antarctica. Having visited the region 31 times, he continues to observe first-hand how tourism is managed and has played a significant part in Antarctica being recognised as the best managed tourism region in the world.
Thomas has consulted to the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, various provincial governments in the People’s Republic of China and has worked on UNWTO missions to Vietnam, Maldives and Korea.
